Grit City Massage

Move Better. Feel Better. Live Better.

Therapeutic massage, movement-informed bodywork, and individualized care in Tacoma

Grit City Massage is the hands-on care side of Grit City Health.

I have been a licensed massage therapist since 2015, with a movement and fitness background extending back to 2007. That combination shapes how I approach massage: not simply as work performed on an isolated sore spot, but as an opportunity to understand the person, their movement, and what they need from their body.

You can come to Grit City Health specifically for a complete therapeutic massage. When it would be helpful, your session can also incorporate movement assessment, Pilates-based exercise, mobility work, or other forms of functional bodywork.

Every session is private, individualized, and built around what you want help with that day.

Massage Is Still Massage Here

You do not need to exercise, perform a movement assessment, or turn your massage appointment into a workout.

If you want a full therapeutic massage focused on relaxation, recovery, tension, or general maintenance, that is absolutely something you can receive at Grit City Health.

The broader GCH approach simply gives us additional options. If you have a recurring concern, difficulty with a particular movement, or discomfort that seems connected to work, training, or daily activity, we can explore those factors and use what we learn to make the bodywork more specific.

Sometimes a session is entirely hands-on. Sometimes movement helps us decide where to begin. Neither approach is automatically better—the right choice depends on you.

Two Ways to Approach Bodywork

Therapeutic Massage and Recovery

Your session can focus entirely on hands-on care.

Massage may be used to help you:

  • Reduce general muscular tension

  • Recover from training, competition, work, or travel

  • Address an area that feels tight, fatigued, or overworked

  • Relax and step away from daily demands

  • Maintain comfort and mobility

  • Feel more at ease in your body

Pressure, positioning, pace, and techniques are adjusted to your needs and preferences. You do not need to be an athlete or arrive with a specific injury to benefit from massage.

Movement-Informed Bodywork

When a concern is connected to a movement or activity, we may begin by looking at what happens when you perform it.

That might mean observing how you squat, reach, rotate, breathe, balance, walk, or reproduce the motion that has been bothering you. Pilates-based movement and functional exercises can help us explore coordination, mobility, strength, and differences between sides.

This does not diagnose an injury or prove that one movement pattern is the cause of your discomfort. It gives us useful information that can guide the session.

After the bodywork, we may return to the original movement and see whether it feels different. That helps us decide what was useful and what may be worth exploring next.

What Might a Session Look Like?

Each appointment begins with a conversation about what you are noticing, what you hope to get from the session, and how you would like to spend the time.

From there, we may:

  • Begin directly with therapeutic massage

  • Use a brief movement assessment to help guide the bodywork

  • Combine table work with mobility or Pilates-based movement

  • Focus on recovery after training or an event

  • Practice one or two movements you can use between appointments

  • Reassess a movement after bodywork to see what changed

There is no fixed formula. Some clients prefer quiet, hands-on massage. Others enjoy understanding how their bodies move and why we are choosing a particular approach. Your session can reflect what feels most useful and comfortable to you.

Who Is Grit City Massage For?

Grit City Massage may be a good fit if you:

  • Want individualized therapeutic massage in a private setting

  • Are managing recurring tension or discomfort

  • Feel restricted during work, exercise, or daily activity

  • Are recovering from training, competition, or a demanding schedule

  • Want bodywork informed by an understanding of movement

  • Are returning to activity after time away

  • Want help understanding why the same area keeps feeling overworked

  • Simply want time to recover, relax, and feel better

You do not have to be an athlete, and you do not need to wait until something is seriously wrong.

Massage Within Grit City Health

Grit City Health brings massage, movement, and coaching together while still allowing each to stand on its own.

Massage and bodywork can help address tension, sensitivity, fatigue, and areas that feel restricted. Pilates-based assessment can help us understand how those areas participate in movement. Exercise can then help you explore new options and build strength, coordination, or confidence.

You are always welcome to book a massage-focused appointment. The integrated Grit City Health approach simply means that if your needs extend beyond the massage table, we have more ways to work with them.

Start With What You Want Help With

You do not need to decide whether you need massage, functional bodywork, or movement assessment before you arrive.

Tell me what you are noticing, what you would like to feel or do differently, and what you want from your appointment. We will start there.

New clients begin with an 80-minute Intake Session, giving us time to discuss your goals, explore movement when appropriate, and provide meaningful hands-on care during the first visit.
