Train Smarter, Not Harder
For many of us, free time is precious. When we choose to dedicate some of that limited time to training, we naturally want every minute to count. But it's easy to fall into patterns of training randomly, pushing harder and longer, believing more miles, more elevation, or more gym hours automatically lead to better results. Unfortunately, this approach often leads to setbacks like injury, burnout, and frustration.
How do I know? Because I've been there too.
From Frustration to Insight
I’ve personally navigated through seasons of training filled with ambitious goals—more miles, higher elevations, longer sessions. My training history was a mix of pre-designed programs and specialized plans intended to push me toward peak performance for my main events. But repeatedly, I found myself facing setbacks:
Loss of motivation
Injuries
Unfinished events
Illness
Burnout
It felt like I was the only one struggling. Each time, I thought there must be a better way.
Discovering a Better Approach: S.T.A.C.
Determined to find a more sustainable path, I dove into the research. Emerging from this exploration, I developed what I now call the Sustainable Training Annual Calendar (S.T.A.C.). It’s a straightforward yet powerful framework designed to integrate structured training with your own intuition, fostering a balanced and sustainable approach to fitness.
Why S.T.A.C. Works
Drawing from my background in fitness, massage therapy, and health coaching, the S.T.A.C. method blends thoughtful structure with the intuitive understanding of your body's needs. Rather than simply pushing harder, you train smarter, allowing for meaningful progress without sacrificing health or enjoyment.
Here’s why it’s effective:
Balanced Approach: Encourages intentional recovery, preventing overtraining and injuries.
Adaptability: Designed to fit your unique schedule, lifestyle, and personal goals.
Longevity: Built on sustainable habits to support training for years—not just weeks or months.
Who Can Benefit?
The beauty of the S.T.A.C. approach is its versatility. While my primary areas of expertise are cycling (road and off-road), running, and general health coaching, this method can be effectively applied to numerous endurance sports and fitness activities.
Whether you’re preparing for your next cycling event, aiming for a running personal best, or simply seeking a healthier and more balanced approach to training, S.T.A.C. can help you achieve your goals sustainably and joyfully.
