This page will walk you through what to expect as a new coaching client, how to prepare, and what working together looks like. Who am I/What is Grit City Health?

Hi! I’m Patrick McCabe, the owner of Grit City Health. I’m a Pilates teacher, licensed massage therapist, and certified health coach. I earned my first Pilates certification in 2007 and became a licensed massage therapist in 2015. From there, Grit City Health was born — a space that combines fitness, recovery, and goal-driven support to help people move, feel, and live better.

As I began working more closely with athletes, I naturally expanded into coaching, blending movement science, endurance training, and real-world adaptability. What started as helping clients recover and get stronger became a deeper mission: To guide people not just through workouts or injuries, but through the entire arc of sustainable, resilient health and performance.

At Grit City Health, it’s never just about the session… It’s about supporting your journey, wherever you are, and building something that lasts.


How to Prepare for Coaching

Gather Key Events and Life Details: Think about key dates (events, vacations, work travel) you want factored into your plan. The more context you share, the better we can plan around your life rhythms.

Prepare with the Right Mindset: Come with a spirit of partnership. Coaching works best when it’s a two-way street. Your feedback, wins, struggles, and questions help shape your journey.


What You’ll Get with Coaching

Personalized Training Plans: Every athlete receives a training calendar tailored to their goals, fitness level, schedule, and lifestyle. Plans are delivered through TrainingPeaks, or via a 6 week paper calendar, giving you clear structure and flexibility each week.

Collaborative Approach: Coaching is a conversation, not a lecture. We’ll work together to adjust and adapt your plan as needed based on feedback, schedule changes, or life events.

Support Beyond Workouts: Coaching at Grit City Health focuses on movement, mindset, and momentum. Expect regular communication, mindset coaching, pacing guidance, and recovery support. Not just workouts.

Sustainable Progress: We don’t chase burnout or boom-bust cycles. We build durable fitness over time, honoring your capacity and life outside training.


Coaching FAQs

How Do I Get Started: Click the “Let’s Get Started!” button below and sign up for your Coaching Initial Intake Session. From there we can talk about you, your goals, and see what I can offer to help you with those goals. After that, there is no pressure to continue. You can follow up as needed, or we can go over the different options and programs I offer for moving forward.

Making Training Schedule Adjustments: Training plans are fluid and adapt to your life. If you need a week restructured due to travel, sickness, or fatigue, just reach out!

Establishing Easy Communications: Primary communication happens via text, email, or in-person during your coaching or bodywork session. We can also schedule periodic check-ins to review progress and make sure you're feeling supported.

Taking Pauses and Changes: Need to pause coaching for a life event? No problem. We’ll work together to adjust your plan so you can return strong and steady.

Set Up Your TrainingPeaks Account (Optional): If you don't already have one, we’ll guide you through setting up a TrainingPeaks Premium account (included in some coaching plans).

Link Devices for Tracking (Optional): You can link devices like Garmin, Wahoo, Whoop, Strava, etc. to your TrainingPeaks account for automatic data syncing. It’s optional but highly recommended for those seeking athletic performance. Your consistency and communication matter most.
